END OF THE LINE?
A lot of Sheet users have asked how you can tell if a horse has reached the end of its line of development.
There is no one simple answer, but there are some guidelines. One strong guideline is when a horse makes a big move to a level 8 - 10 points faster than the point at which the horse has previously leveled off. On the attached Sheet, Torch Majic has a 19 on its third out, which doesn't indicate the end of development as there is no prior leveling off. The later jump to the 9, however, indicates the end of the line in all probability, particularly since it is a 6" point jump up top. 10 points from the 19 - 20 level Torch Majic held for a month plus is a warning sign that backward reaction is much more likely than forward development.
